On 2nd May 1990 the youth network Lambda e. V. has been founded on the Roundtable of Youth in the former GDR. Short time after this followed the Landesverband Berlin, which is the today’s youth network Lambda Berlin-Brandenburg e. V. With its 500 members Lambda is the only organisation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (lgbt) youth work in Berlin and Brandenburg.
Lambda represents the interests of young Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender in public and politics and sees itself and its work as a support in young people’s identification process and in psychosocial emergency situations.
The organisation engages for education, awareness trainings, counselling and recreational activities. The work is mainly done by young volunteers themselves. Lambda encourages self-initiative, self-organisation, codetermination, mutual understanding, the will to collaborate and solidarity based on democratic first principles.
Lambda provides a space free from discrimination, as well as the possibility to build up friendships. In the centre of our activities stands the counselling from and for young people. Coming-Out-groups, spare time activities, a weekly youth group, workshop offers and much more. These offers give the young people the possibility to not only enjoy their spare time together and realise themselves, but also encourage and foster their social competences. For all these projects the organisation is a helping and counselling part for the young people.
Main aims are acceptance and support of LGBT living in society, equal opportunities for the sexes and for the right of all young people of free self-development and freedom of expression.
